Many were on hand last Wednesday at the Highlands in Hollywood, to pay tribute to Deshaun “Proof” Holton, on the fourth anniversary of his death. The performance line-up was a who’s-who of West Coast hip-hop icons, including Chino XL, Ras Kass, Dilated Peoples, Planet Asia, Alchemist, and Defari. All proceeds were donated to Proof’s surviving family members. The first video below catches Ras Kass addressing the crowd before launching into a performance of “Ghetto Fabulous,” followed by Evidence, Rakaa, and Babu taking the stage for “Worst Comes to Worst.” Read the rest of this entry »

Caught up with Re-Up Entertainment family LVNPROOF last Friday, following Ras Kass’ performance at Malone’s in Newport Beach. After taking the stage, LVNPROOF took time out to speak on Guerilla Press, Jay 211, and the rest of the Re-Up family tree.
Already a veteran of film and television (ER, The Shield, Gridiron Gang, Cold Case, The Closer), Proof has been just as busy on screen as he’s been on the mic. You can catch him on tonight’s episode of “Criminal Minds” on CBS! Read the rest of this entry »

Here’s the long-awaited debut of the Electrolightz’ “Superfan” music video. The footage was shot by Eroc, and edited by myself (with the help of some After Effects projects for the extra dynamics). The video has a fun concept – a “superfan” stalking NameBrand and Rami Dearest, and fantasizing about the group after constructing her Wall of Crazy. It’s yet another catchy single from the Electrolightz, and for those interested in more, you can download a free copy of their “Electronightz” mixtape here. Number one in a series of four. ‘The Endangered Lyricist” campaign has been met with great response thus far, and enjoyed by portions of the internet who’ve recognized it as parody. The rest of you can go back to sniffing glue. In all seriousness though, we’ve been blown away by the enthusiastic participation of people all over the world (see pics below). Ras and Donnie Bo Sibley created the series in a comic spirit, but it’s been great to see that we’ve spawned a grass-roots movement as well. It’s a joke at its core, but the message is clear…don’t let good art fall by the wayside! Read the rest of this entry »

While he wasn’t busy serving Tequila to unsuspecting party-goers, Bill Murray took a break to catch the Electrolightz’ performance at the SXSW festival. Something tells me I need to make it to Austin next year, and finally catch one of these events! The E-lightz have been all over the map these days, and are scheduled to appear at University of Massachusetts Amherst (UMASS) on April 25th, alongside Ludacris, New Found Glory, and LMFAO. In the meantime, you can keep tabs on the Electrolightz here, for news, music, and videos… Read the rest of this entry »

Everyone knows I prefer zombies over vampires. I mean, no pun intended, but the current vampire media-siege generally sucks. Socially awkward adults began reading novels intended for 14 year-old girls, and before long, two slouching goons from “Twilight” were presenting a tribute to horror films at the Academy Awards. Horror, indeed. To be fair though, it hasn’t been ALL bad. First I began to enjoy the campy and trashy qualities of “True Blood,” and now there’s the latest offering from Little Jinder. The Swedish trip-hop sensation has teamed up with DJ 12th Planet and Ras Kass, for a remix of her Read the rest of this entry »

Concept art and title treatment for “Drastic, Anything but Plastic,” a pilot in development at the Style Network. As the title implies, “Drastic, Anything but Plastic” is a makeover-themed program, offering tips on changing your look without going under the knife. Or so I’ve been told. In any case, I’m always happy to swing outside of my strike-zone to take on an unusual project. In designing the title treatment, I’ve tried to uphold the spirit of the show – bright, fun, and a little loud. Click through for Drastic’s video coverage of Susan G. Here’s the official release of the “Save the Ras Kass” trailer, for the upcoming webisode series. My primary goal for the trailer was to promote the underlying theme of our “Endangered Lyricist” campaign: survival. The trailer is a contemporary nightmare of war, unrest, and economic ruin – signifying here the devaluation of art. The webisode series will contain all-original footage, but I’ve pillaged near and far in compiling the trailer. Fans of Chris Smith’s recent documentary “Collapse” will recognize sampling of riot footage, as well as Michael Ruppert’s ominous warnings (”Evolve or perish, grow up or die”). Attached below is my poster submission to the makers of “The Last Rites or Ransom Pride.” The indie western has developed quite a buzz in the past couple months, thanks in part to a creative web campaign. Recently, the “Last Rites” crew reached out for content development – songs, iPhone apps, T-shirts, comic books, and of course, movie posters. Scheduled for release this coming April, “The Last Rites of Ransom Pride” stars Lizzy Caplan, Kris Kristofferson, Scott Speedman, Dwight Yoakam, Jason Priestley, and Peter Dinklage. More endorsements for GuerillaPress.net, this time from model/actress/singer Somaya Reece. Not only has Somaya established herself as a fixture in the world of hip-hop videos, she’s appeared on the big (and small) screen in “Entourage,” “The Scorpion King,” and “American Psycho.” Just through with wrapping yet another music video shoot, Somaya dropped in to leave a quick message. Seen here in just one the day’s many costumes, Somaya fans can catch her soon in Ras Kass’s “Since You Been Gone” video. Rumor has it there was an eyepatch involved as well.
